News and Information

Welcome Visitors

We are so excited to have you “Come Home” to Saint Cecilia Cathedral, a beautiful teaching space about our Catholic Faith. All who enter the church and receive the sacraments here experience the grace and glory and love of God. Through our Masses and even the private prayer time in the quiet of this holy space, we offer you an opportunity to join us. We would love to have you be part of our family.

One of the things that draws people into Saint Cecilia Cathedral is the beauty and grandeur of the building itself. Visitors are drawn to the towers on the hill and the amazing architecture; those gathered for liturgies or Archdiocesan events are engulfed within in the beauty of the religious symbols, art, and sculpture.

Yet for all of its grand architecture and decoration and history, the primary purpose of Saint Cecilia Cathedral is the worship of God within the Catholic faith. The truth remains that there is nothing more beautiful than the celebrations (Masses) that happen here every day. Guests come for the beauty; they stay for the truth.

Support Your Cathedral

This year, our Catholic Day of Giving will be a kickoff to a month-long soft appeal to raise funds for these unforeseen repairs.  These invoices included $36,535.05 for the sinkhole; $33,781.60 for sidewalk repairs; $12,591.00 for the boiler; and $999.35 for the removal of a tree. The combined total for just these items is over $80,000

We want to focus on participation. As a community, we do more together. How many households can we spread the word to so they can partake? That’s the goal, truly! We want the largest number of households, the largest percentage of people, to join in.

Eucharistic Adoration

Most Catholics have gone to adoration to visit our Eucharistic Lord in the tabernacle. For some of us this visit is a recurring pilgrimage, part of our weekly or even daily routine. Some of us may have gone once or twice but remain uncertain about the difference between common prayer and adoration. We might wonder about the purpose and meaning of frequent adoration, and whether we should do it more often.

What exactly is happening when we receive the Eucharist during Mass or pray in front of the Eucharist in the Blessed Sacrament? Is it worth our time? Is something real taking place?

When we look at the host held in the monstrance during adoration, we’re able to meditate on the reality that Christ made it possible to sacrifice Himself for us, but never leave us, just like He promised. When He takes the form of the host, He is there with us physically in the room.

Mother's Day

Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you give life and care for your Church.

May the example of Mary, mother of Jesus, inspire them to live their vocation as Christian mothers and call their children to faith. Guide and protect them in challenging times and help them to continue to trust in you all the days of their life.

Ascension of the Lord

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, a holy day of obligation, celebrates Jesus’ rising into Heaven 40 days after He rose on Easter. The Ascension is the culmination of Jesus’ earthly time with the Apostles, where He teaches and prepares them for their ministries. Celebrations of the Ascension are some of the oldest in the Church. The Ascension serves as a reminder for us to set our sights on holiness, to strive for a relationship with Christ.

Our Masses are

Our Mission

The Catholic Mass and other Sacraments are the most important reasons we are here, as the model representative of Christ’s church in action, led in Omaha by the Archbishop. The Cathedral parish has been the anchor of the community, active in social justice concerns: serving those in need; maintaining the neighborhood during suburban exodus; providing a gathering place for city-wide prayer vigils; ecumenical sharing and neighborhood associations; these are all part of the work we do as Saint Cecilia Cathedral parish.

Our mission is to bring all to the beauty, truth, and joy of Christ. Worship of Jesus Christ in the Cathedral is offered through the celebration of the Eucharist which is the “source and summit” of our faith.

Vestments Exhibit

See a selection of spectacular white Eastertide vestments and liturgical implements on display in the Cathedral until May 27.

Holy Mass at Cathedral

The Catholic Mass and other Sacraments are the most important reasons we are here, as the model representative of Christ’s church in action, led in Omaha by the Archbishop.

We parishioners, who experience the beauty of the Cathedral of Saint Cecilia on a regular basis, hopefully never become indifferent to the beauty around us. But even if we do – beauty is temporal, fleeting. We are invested and engaged in our faith community, it’s the truth that keeps us coming back. The beauty of our faith is the truth that exists whether we worship together in the grandest cathedral or the most meager chapel.
